World-class beaches, hikes, fine dining, a heritage lighthouse, a summer market, an awesome art and music scene: so much to see and do!
Shirley is a vibrant community with something to suit everyone: whether it's adventure or peace and quiet, it's the perfect place to disconnect in order to reconnect!
Within walking distance of Cloud 9 is the famous Shirley Delicious, the local cafe known far and wide, including a write-up in the New York Times - the perfect spot to start your day with their incredible breakfast/brunch/lunch. After that, head down to the Sheringham Point Lighthouse for an accessible and enjoyable hike to a piece of Canadian heritage. Built in 1912, the lighthouse has been lovingly restored by the local preservation society. They've recently installed a speaker so you can hear passing whales singing.
French Beach is a 10-minute drive away, perfect for an oceanside stroll or a lazy day in a chair listening to the waves. Beyond French Beach are Mystic, Sombrio, Sandcut and China Beaches, as well as Jordan River and finally Port Renfrew, with Botany Bay and the renowned Botanical Beach. All offer great and varied hikes with plenty of photo opportunities on the edge of the rain forest.
Other nearby dining options are Stoked Wood Fired Pizza (all our guests who've visited rave about it), and Cold Shoulder Cafe in Jordan River (check their websites for current opening days and times). Sooke is only 20 minutes away, and has many dining options for all tastes and budgets. Our area also has several craft breweries; award-winning distiller Sheringham Distillery; and Tugwell Creek Meadery.
Fishing, paddle boarding, kayaking, and surfing are favourite local activities.
Shirley is home to a dynamic arts and crafts community and talented musicians. In the summer there is a market on Sundays which features local creations of all descriptions, fresh produce and live music. Throughout the year the community hall and park host concerts and other musical events. Shirley Day, which occurs on the 3rd Sunday of August is a highlight of the year, and definitely worth the drive out.
We have a small gallery onsite, The Sophisticated Pallet, that features locally made art, crafts, books and gifts.
Come discover for yourself why we love our corner of the Island so much!
